Dear Patient,
It has been six months since my previous newsletter and much has happened in the interim. The practice has become busier with many new patients, some referred by colleagues, but many by established patients, as well. Significantly, the number of established patients requesting to transfer to another endocrinologist is nil, barring a move out of the area. I want to take this opportunity to thank you very much for referring your family and friends.
We are gradually evolving into the Diabetes Center , which I have envisioned. In addition to our nutritionist, Vivian Pincus and to our Podiatrist, Dr. Barry Herstik, who both started in February 2004 and have been gradually building their hours. In September 2004, Caroline Kinzelberg has been examining patients at the Fort Lee location. Caroline is a huge asset to our center, bringing with her seven years of combined experience, both as an RN and a Nurse Practitioner. In addition to being very well educated and experienced, she is also extremely pleasant and has left a very positive impression on all the patients that she has seen. Caroline will see patients in follow-up only.
Our Vascular Screening Program, utilizing Doppler, is busy evaluating patients on a weekly basis, and is essential for early detection of arterial occlusions, which can cause either a stroke or gangrene of the lower extremities if not detected and treated early.
Diabetic supplies, which currently include glucometers, strips, standard solutions and lancets, are available to all diabetics and are being delivered to many of our Medicare participants on a regular basis. Patients must sign up for this service with Grace and notify us in advance when they wish a new supply of strips to be either delivered to them or to be picked up by them in our office. We are working currently with Roche and have the Accucheck Active Glucometer only, but in the future expect to have more choices.
As promised, cardiac screening and evaluation is coming and should be available to our patients this month. Many of you are on our waiting list and none shall be overlooked. Dr. Tencer Lee, who is a Board Certified Cardiologist with offices in both Englewood Cliffs and West Orange, will be responsible for interpreting the work-up and for consulting regarding any need for further testing or treatment. The actual testing will be conducted at our location and will consist of nuclear treadmill stress-testing. This will be conducted under the supervision of an anesthesiologist, utilizing brand new – state of the art equipment.
An effort is also underway to create a nutritional support seminar which will be conducted by Vivian at a convenient late hour in the Fort Lee office. Please let us know if you are interested….sign up with Joan and bring a friend.
Further news items are related to our recent PR efforts and the near-launching of our new web site. The PR effort will encompass several strategies: news-related articles; mailings to patients, bring-a-friend programs and the creation of a packet for new patients.
The new web site will be the “darling” of the above effort. It will literally bring us into the digital age and into the 21st Century. Our web master is one very skillful lady who has created and will maintain a site that will hopefully develop into a convenient conduit of information between all of you and us!
My hope is that in the not too distant future, you shall be able to look up and print your recent lab results and possibly even schedule the next appointment online.
In closing, please remember that diabetes is a growing epidemic. Only by constantly improving, educating and interpreting, can we hope to achieve the level of care that is required in order to halt this devastating illness.
Achieving the above is our mission.
Sincerely,
Yair Litvin, M.D., F.A.C.E. |
